Academy To Present Oscar Concert 2018

Composer John Williams conducts a suite from his score for “The Book Thief” during the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ “The Oscar Concert” on Thursday, February 27, 2014 at Royce Hall in Los Angeles.


According to Film Music Reporter, The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is teaming with the Los Angeles-based Philharmonic to present next year’s nominated scores live in concert at the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles on February 28, 2018. Renowned conductor Thomas Wilkins was chosen to lead the celebration which is expected to feature suites and video from each nominated film. Continue reading

Today, Sony Classical will release a special 3 CD / DVD box set, “Williams & Spielberg: The Ultimate Collection”, which features highlights from both filmmakers’ long-lasting relationship. For this edition, the composer has re-recorded some of most beloved cues from his latest works with Spielberg that includes movies such as “Lincoln”, “War Horse” and last year’s “The BFG”. John Powell Announces “Choral Works” Album


Composer John Powell recently revealed that an album featuring choral works he has been writing over the past few years is currently in the works and set to be released by the end of the year.

Check out the last movement (“The Gift”) of his first-ever oratorio, which premiered last year in London, “A Prussian Requiem” – which the audience labelled  as one of the most emotional pieces of music Powell has ever written – after the jump. Continue reading

“Logan”: Martinez Out, Beltrami In

Director James Mangold confirmed on Twitter that veteran composer Marco Beltrami is currently scoring the upcoming Wolverine sequel Logan. The film starring Hugh Jackman and Patrick Stewart as the main protagonists follows an an aging Wolverine and Professor X who must protect a young female clone of Wolverine from an evil organization led by Nathanial Essex. The movie will be released on March 3, 2017 by 20th Century Fox.

Jed Kurzel To Score “Alien: Covenant”


According to the first trailer, composer Jed Kurzel has taken over scoring duties on Ridley Scott’s upcoming Alien: Covenant. The film starring Michael Fassbender, Katherine Waterston and Billy Crudup follows the crew of the colony ship Covenant, bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, as they discover what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world.
